General Headcanons

I have a lot of these for Kuja. I try to keep all my takes from making him too unrecognizable as a character, but some of them are just, like, too integral to me to let go.

- Kuja gained his surname/noble title by getting close to, then killing and replacing the previous Lord King. The name clearly existed in Treno's hierarchy of nobles long before he got there. I could see him also weaseling his way into being willed the title somehow, but the whole situation is never talked about in canon at all so it's really up to personal opinion what the chain of events is. Personally I think he killed a rich guy and took his house, performing his only act of praxis in his entire life.

- This isn't a headcanon so much as very obscure canon, but the FFIX Ultimania states that Kuja's original hair color was red, and that his imbuement with a soul ypon creation was an accident.

- Kuja's eyes are definitely originally blue in FFIX, but his Final Fantasy Record Keeper sprites give him purple eyes and I like that way better. If you see blue eyes in my icons no you don't I'm going to edit them <3

- It isn't specified how long Kuja has left as of endgame FFIX. It could be anywhere from weeks to months to years; it's difficult to determine what "you'll die soon" means coming from a man who operates on the scale of millennia. Depending on what's fun for the roleplay tone and his canonpoint, the clock is still ticking on his lifespan, whether or not he knows it.

- I've played what form Kuja's looming death will take a large number of ways in the past, so honestly if it comes up, expect it to be based primarily on vibes. My personal favorite angle is that something is going wrong with his soul, though.

- thematically he is probably supposed to be an Aries (Mars, bringer of war~!), but his birthday could be anywhere between January to early March. He may in fact turn 24 over the course of ffix.

- I write Kuja as transmasculine. I'm the roleplayer so I can project characters being trans as much as I want, and it's reparations for all the transphobic nonsense people have been posting about him since the year 2000~*~.

- FINE I actually have canon stuff to point to as well . It's already stated he's used magic in various ways to alter his appearance, I have opinions about his big boxy PS1 chest, and also-- okay. Okay. We're going to get a little wild here.

Please observe Necron, the final boss drawn to fight the party by sheer force of Kuja's existential despair:

Please also observe Necron's heaving bosom.

That is an entire Genderweird.

Anyway, Kuja is trans. I will also argue forever Necron has significant symbolic meaning to the narrative. Thank you have a nice day <3

- actually this is a great time to mention my craziest headcanon that is that necron is actually a deceased and or undead Terran eidolon Kuja encountered a depiction of that ended up making a deep impression on him---
