finalbowsokay here's my big headcanon timeline for kuja. Toggleable nsfw notes.
1776
- Lindblum's invention of the airship has caused the centuries of conflict across the Mist Continent to grind to a standstill. In March, the first Angel of Death is created by Garland to bring war once again to Gaia.
This experimental prototype is not only gifted with an incredible amount of power, it is the first Genome ever made with a soul, thanks to a quirk of design. Garland is swift to conclude it is a failed project, but that there are many things he can learn from it for future attempts.
A few months later, he decides it is becoming troublesome to refer to the prototype without a proper name, especially because he'll be making more Angels of Death in the future. He names this first prototype "Kuja."
Early 1780
- Garland decides to place an expiration date on the prototype, making a incision in its soul that will fester over time into fatal instability.
- Kuja and the silver dragon the Genome would later dub 'Ginryu' are introduced to one another.
Early 1780
- After roughly 3 and a half years of preparation, Garland grants his weapon leave to roam Gaia and begin wreaking havoc.

- Garland decides to move forward with creating his next Angel of Death. Kuja's soul was an initial mistake, but Garland now believes it a useful feature. There are two major flaws he seeks to rectify with the second model; lack of loyalty to Terra’s cause, and an inability to achieve a Trance.
