Kuja knows a particular spell called "Jewel." Functionally, it's harmless! The target gets hit with a little stereotypical JRPG lightshow, and then the caster receives a rock derived from the target...uh...somehow. it's literally magic don't question it.

Anyway, Kuja is an easily bored wizard who thinks this is all great fun, so he's making a rock collection out of people. 's rocks. Not their soul gems, though, of course. ...and you didn't think he was petrifying people, did you? Noooooo, never.

If you tell me what he gets from casting it on you I am assuming he has cast it on you. Unless otherwise noted. If you just want to say what your rock is but you would simply not be caught by his silly little wizard tricks that's cool too.

Appearance Notes:

The red feathers Kuja was letting grow out are gone; his body died and was revived to its state when he arrived to the game.

His tail is always visible, and has banded, silver fur. It tends to betray his emotions where his face and words might not.

He has his canon clothes and wears them sometimes, but they have very obvious repairs done to them that Kuja is very aggravated by so he only wears them seldomly.

Kuja has died twice, technically; the first time when his soul shattered from its terminal decay, and the second when Yuri killed his body to give him control back from Queen Brahne.

So! Through the course of RPing in Austice it has become evident I'm in need of this!!

Tell me about anything out of the ordinary about your character's soul, and what Kuja might be able to understand of it by interacting with them. I'll let you know if it's something he can pick up on -- in the end I try to play his soul senses as not TERRIFICALLY extensive. It's like... what you would know by interacting with the surface of an object, rather than being able to see inside it, you know?

In general I'm gonna assume people aren't gonna ping him as weird. But they could. If you got other guys in there with you he would definitely know.

( INT. King's Mansion, Treno. An opulent hall with a high ceiling, leading on into a windowless study packed with eclectica. KUJA drapes himself into a plush armchair, a hand pressed over his eyes, and melts like he's been bearing the world on his shoulders. VIVI, the PROTOTYPE, slowly waddles in. Beat. KUJA slowly pulls his hand from over his face. )

Gem Status:

There are a few very minor little scuffs on the surface of the gem that weren't there when Kuja first arrived. A...accidents happen.. He keeps some soft cloth wrapped around it and tied off with string now.

Kuja's gem looks as if it is four separate pieces that are somehow still stuck together, with distinctive cracks you can follow to map out the shape of each major chunk. There is a large divot in one side, going all the way in to show off the center of the gem. The outside of the orb is blue, the inner core, red -- but when it's out of sunlight, the colors change place.

One of the cracks is very wide, and rimmed with a rotten black. That part of the gem jiggles a little ominously if you poke it wrong.

Part of a different crack in the round gem has been sealed off by a little line of clear crystal, tiny little baby points of quartz growing out of the crack. That's.. better than it losing more bits, right? Right.

Losses

Current:

• Why he hates his tail - erases the majority of his dysmorphia, changes his relationship to his homeworld entirely from utter disgust to acceptance. He still sees his fellow Genomes as terrifying empty shells and dreads that as his intended fate.. but he doesn't despise looking like one, and doesn't reject Terra as a whole. He's ignoring a giant weight of melancholy toward the fate of that world now.

• The purpose for which he was created. He knows he was made for something, that he was damn good at it -- but that he was judged insufficient for the role. His only clue is that for some reason... He really believed that destroying the crystal of origin could fulfill his role, in some way.

• That he can use telepathy (I do not want to write it as a tool he has lmao). He still remembers it as something Genomes can do, but thinks that for some absurd reason he can't do it. It's whatever, he is a special boy in many ways.

• All of his memories from TDM #1/the game prologue.

• Garnet's name, appearance and voice -- he remembers her and the role he made her play in his grand plan, but there's a clear void of things he SHOULD know about her... he just remembers "the summoner princess of Alexandria," though he can uh. Assume her name had 'til Alexandros' in it somewhere.

Future:

• Garland's name. He says his name a lot in his diary, but even when he hears it again, it just.. doesn't feel right. Is he sure he knew the man's real name?

Alterations

Current:

• That the process for creating black mages is directly based off of that of Genomes (he no longer conflates the black mages with himself, even if it would be a natural step in his thoughts).

• In December, the false happy memory Kuja 'regained' is of a time he got terribly sick, and Garland saw to it personally to care for him through his illness.

• This is an alteration of a real memory that was.. uh.. worserer.

Future:

• He'll forget that he killed Lord King and took his identity, instead remembering staying a part of the man's inner circle, presenting him the idea and technology to make the black mages, and egging him on into making a lucrative weapons deal with Queen Brahne. He'll recall serving as the go-between for the Queen and Lord King, and slowly, carefully dropping a trail of breadcrumbs for Brahne, so that she would identify him as the real brains, the real THREAT, and ultimately give him the chance to wrest control of the Eidolons.

....this changes a lot! Kuja won't have a (stolen) surname anymore, he won't present himself in the role of a noble, and he'll look on his experiences in Treno much more negatively, lacking the satisfaction of becoming top dog. He still remembers moving primarily in the circles of the rich and powerful and living in King's mansion, but it's now all in the role of a sycophant constantly having to watch his footing. Ugh, he hates how much he relates to Zorn and Thorn now.

Red Roses

• Kuja is experiencing recurring dreams, always involving roses. The rest of the details come and go, but the red roses are always there. It's not every time he goes to sleep, but the dreams ARE getting more frequent.
• While harvesting marigolds with Dimos, Kuja remembered that... he knew lots of things about roses! Despite... previously being quite confident he knew jack shit about plants...

First Impressions

⯌ Visual
A tall, pale wraith of exquisite beauty! ...Or at least of exquisite androgyny, if you don't have taste.

His eyes are purple, hair silver, and his skin is a bit on the side of.. weird pale. Grayish tinge? Unearthly.

Kuja's hair is long, features a crest of feathers atop his head, and is layered with more feathers throughout. They are not decorative. He also wears a few hints of make-up, whenever possible: red eye-shadow, purple lipstick and nails. His final most notable trait is his long monkey's tail, that has banded, silver fur. It's prehensile, but he's not actually all that practiced at using it for.. anything.

He is generally pretty scantily clad if he can get away with it. If he can't, he's at least going to find some way to make it provocative.

⯌ Demeanor
Graceful and arrogant. This man is terrifically full of himself, and likes to speak sweetly even the most poisonous words. He's always thinking, thinking, thinking - and acts as if convinced everyone he speaks to is always three steps behind him.

⯌ Sound
A high, sing-song voice that straddles the line between masculine and feminine. Loves to put in part-TI-cular emphasis and intonation. Could be a countertenor? (He's actually a contralto.)

⯌ Scent
Soap and perfume! He likes to switch up the exact perfume, he gets bored with too much of the same -- but he likes amber a lot. In Trance, he smells like electric and animal fur.

Abilities

⯌ Master of Magic
Kuja's a red mage, aka capable of casting both white (healing, protective) and black (destructive) magic, and he's quite accomplished with both. He's never carried a weapon in his life and never plans to start, because he doesn't need one. He also has a few spells he uses for mundane things outside of battle -- his favorite is Float, which lets him do just that, but there's also the ones he uses to change his appearance in a few different ways. You know this guy's actually a redhead?

⯌ Trance
Thanks to the second soul now inhabiting his body, when in a life-or-death situation Kuja is capable of entering a state of Trance - a temporary flood of power heralded by a cool light show that also dramatically changes his appearance. When in Trance, Kuja can do all kinds of wild shit he normally couldn't manage -- he was already pretty OP, but now things get ridiculous. In canon, when he first transforms, he stays in Trance for an unknown but unusually long amount of time - every time after that I'm gonna say he can stay transformed, like, ten minutes tops. And ten minutes is kind of pushing it. He'll be feeling pretty busted if he does it that long.

⯌ Soul Manipulation
Genomes were created to be vessels for outside souls, and though Kuja has his own, he's no exception. He's capable of taking another soul into his body, and in general is able to manipulate the... stuff... of dead souls, able to agitate the ire of the dead to create monsters, and to funnel them into making living dolls with inage magical powers. They are so, so cute, and also quite capable of becoming spontaneously sapient.

⯌ Weird Psychic Space Furry Shit
Genomes have a couple of weird things going on with them. They can commune naturally with Terran technology, know the language by instinct, command many of its creatures, and also they have telepathy????? All of these particular abilities are framed, imo, more like psychic powers than traditional magic.

Most of them never grow older than the stage of maturity they were created at, with some notable exceptions. Kuja, personally, has never aged a day in his life.

Roleplaying a ship with Kuja would be so fun for me it would practically be decadent... he's kind of an emotional uphill climb to genuinely bond with ~~so like, slow burn city,~~ but he'll do lighthearted fun or smut any day of the week. If you're interested, talk to me!

Also, full disclosure is that by nature I'm a multishipper... if you want to write an exclusive relationship let's talk about it! But by default I lean to not, and Kuja will flirt around.

⯌ Off-Limits
Any kind of dubcon scenes or beyond I will only do on an "access list only" post/some other private platform. Generally what I like to do is either start the scene on a restricted entry, or post a comment with a link showing it's moving to one. Referencing it happened elsewhere is a-okay, but I prefer to strictly control direct access to anything I participate in that's graphic and blurry about consent. Doesn't mean I don't enjoy doing it, though. Feel free to hit me up.

⯌ Opt-out / Other
Kuja's at a part of his character arc where he's preparing to do MASSIVE amounts of trouble-making. He's by default evaluating other characters and weighing if he wants to try and use them for his Big Plan. If you'd prefer he don't try to drag you in, please comment below and let me know. Absolutely! This is great fun for him. Playing to the roles of romance? He could do that any day of the week.

⯌ Fight
Absolutely. I love fight scenes. If Kuja thinks he's stronger than another character, he'll toy with them rather than just getting the damn fight over with.

⯌ Injury
Yes. He deserves it.

⯌ Death
Kuja knows he can come back from dying from physical harm now, so death is fair game <3

⯌ Soul Sensing / Heart Sensing
Hi, here starts headcanons! Please put on your helmet.

Kuja's soul is a lil weird. Close inspection will reveal signs that it was originally.. sort of a chunky stew of other souls, that came together and made something entirely new. It also has.. uh..a wound.

There's something VERY concerning about the structural integrity of this soul. If you're able to see vivid details about souls, it's clear a very long time ago, a purposeful incision was made, and left to fester and widen. As a result, his soul's in a steady degrade... this is exactly what a soul feels like when it's doomed to break apart, and soon.

Let's hear it for January!

Alongside his own soul, there's a second soul inhabiting his body - that of Queen Brahne. It's a totally normal human soul, which strikes a dramatic difference sitting right next to Kuja's. We basically.. get 0 information about how this works, in canon? So that leaves TON of leeway for doing whatever the hell we want with that! Woohoo!

First Dirge (11/4) 𝄡 with Ala, Jiro, and Hiro. Between blinks, Kuja loses his chance at taking everyone down with him, and finds himself clawing his way up out of a shallow grave. Soon after, he meets a peppy girl who challenges him to guess her name, a grumpy guy with a weird pet squirrel, and a young man who can tell something is very off about him.

Campout Event - Threnodies (11/5) 𝄡 with Naberius, Phillip, and Rinne. Kuja tags along for the stakeout at the church, coming in at the tail end of a mystery. He learns Cure doesn't kill the undead in this world, cleans off some pretty stained glass windows with Phil's help, and gets jumpscared by Rinne when he stares too deeply at the fog.

Campout Event - Life after Death (11/5) 𝄡 with Barnaby. A chat with what Kuja assumes to be a particularly clever magical construct turns extremely significant when Kuja receives more ammo for his 'we're all dead' theory, AND ALSO hears that someone dropped dead here and GOT BACK UP later????

Campout Event - Deluge (11/6) 𝄡 with Papyrus. i'll come up with a good summary later this is meant to lead into the mist summoning investigation!!

Campout Event - Sacrifice (11/6) 𝄡 with Jiro. A little bit of bickering, a little bit of melancholy as Kuja carelessly casts aside his memento from home.

Kuja's 'journal' takes the form of a glowing crystal a bit bigger than a backpack. Until he decided on a permanent residence, he left it stowed in random, out of the way spots around town - in empty houses, dead ends, maybe a stray gazebo (that is a PRIMO mysterious glowing crystal location).

Now that he's picked out a house he wants to settle in, he just keeps it in a room he uses mostly for storage. He doesn't want to soak up random knowledge beams when he's just going about his day, even if they're comprised of his own face and voice.

It's way too heavy to lug around with him, but he's extremely confident no one other than another Genome would be able to get information out of it.

He is wrong, ftr. Characters with psychic ability or mind-based magic can totally interact with the crystal.

Kuja's journal entries are videos basically. By basking in the light of the crystal, the information within will impress itself on your mind, rather than it being, like, a video you're watching.

Once you've used it for a little while, it's not hard to sort through what's older and newer.

Kuja has a phone as of December 16th! He got sick and the thanatophobia won lmao <3. Feel free to contact him by text, voice, or video now-- he's terrible at answering his phone right when it rings, though. He tends to leave it sitting around, and sometimes even leaves it at home.

Kuja can very easily be found around town. He kind of sticks out, what with the height (the official height chart says 7'1" but I nerfed him to 6'7") and the habit of floating around places.

He has a habit of perching atop buildings, so a good place to look is Up.
